The haptician’s guide to screen cleaning

It goes without saying that the Tanvas team spends a lot of time thinking about and working with touch-enabled surfaces. We wanted to pass on some helpful advice about cleaning your TanvasTouch-enabled screens.

The following instructions were written for the TanvasTouch Desktop Development Kit which is a glass-top surface screen. While we cannot speak for other products, these tips may be applicable to similar glass-top screens. Always check with your manufacturer first before applying cleaning solvents to any touch-enabled screen.

In the Tanvas office and our work-from-environments, we commonly use isopropyl alcohol to clean our screens. We do not recommend using any cleaners that contain waxes, abrasives or ammonia such as Windex. Instructions:

  1. Turn off the device or at least turn off the display.
  2. Use a soft lint-free cloth, we recommend using a microfiber cloth. Do not use an old rag or a paper towel.
  3. Gently wipe the screen with the dry microfiber.
  4. For tougher stains wet the microfiber with water, do not spray directly on the screen. LCD cleaning wet wipes are fine to use.
  5. For disinfecting and also cleaning, use a 70% isopropyl solution to dampen the microfiber.
  6. Let the screen dry before re-use.

BONUS: In a two-for-one benefit made possible only by TanvasTouch, your software-defined textures will be cleaned too.
