TANVAS VS. VIBRATION
Tanvas differs from and complements standard vibrotactile haptics. Vibration motors can be embedded inside a device, but they broadcast those vibrations indiscriminately, and they don’t support the most important thing which is to reach out to touch – and feel – something.
LOW ENERGY, SOLID STATE
The construction of the hardware is solid state – there are no moving parts which supports easy integration. Tanvas uses less energy than traditional haptic technologies and there is no requirement for grounding. Electric fields are used to modulate the friction forces acting on the finger with pixel-level resolution giving designers a vast gamut with which to work.
